Businesses can improve the effectiveness of computerisation by doing what could be called a 'Bottleneck Analysis' for the business - an analysis of where the shoe pinches the most. It will help companies to design systems which can directly contribute to the business instead of using the resources in activities peripheral to the business. Just as a small change in strategy can win battles, this small shift in emphasis can make a world of difference to the IT effectiveness in companies. This is illustrated with a Case study in order to help the participants to identify their own business bottlenecks and directly reap business benefits of computerization. All of
us want to perform at work. In this article, the author attempts to list
some simple ways to improve personal and group effectiveness.
By being
effective, I mean producing more results with the
same efforts. But before we can talk of achieving results, how many
of us are
clear what is the result we want to accomplish?
Are we clear what
exactly we are up to - what is our goal or objective?
At work,
we get so deeply involved grappling with
one problem after another that we have no time to raise our head
above our shoulders
to see where is our destination and which way
we are heading.
The author seeks to drive home the need to
define the
goals clearly for
every single task and explains
with examples
and illustrations how it helps. Having defined the
objectives, he
discusses how to maximise the outputs of the team working for that
objective?
Moreover, having
defined the objectives, how do
you go about
achieving the goal? How do you ensure that the team does not work at
tangents but
contributes to the common goal? The author attempts to list steps for effectiveness by
identifying strategic issues.
The
author highlights the difference between Objective and Means, Long Term
Goals and Short Term Goals. It also warns how dangerous it is to
concentrate on only Means and Short Term Goals without keeping an eye on
the Objective. The author concludes that Goal Orientation is not only the
key to personal and group effectiveness in every activity, it is also the
key to business effectiveness. The
author explains in a unique and simple way the meaning of Business Process
Re-engineering (BPR) and how Goal Orientation is the basis of BPR.
The article
is important
for one and all.
It is
good for personal

WAKE UP TO QUALITY
A
SYNOPSIS
Today
Quality is the key to survival for businesses. Businesses are going global
and the internet and
e-commerce shrinking the world so that the whole world market is made
available to the consumer. Obviously the consumer has greater choice and
would go for the best quality.
So
far India is itself providing a substantial market to the Indian producer.
When the distances shrink, the Indian consumer will have access to the
world market. In such a circumstance, will he buy Indian? Can the Indian
goods provide the same quality as the world market?. Can the Indian
producer then depend on the Indian consumer to provide him the market?
Will the Indian products and business survive against the onslaught of
world class products?
Indian
producers are under severe threat from the world market and unless we
produce quality, we shall be extinct. When it comes to the issue of
quality, we Indians are fast asleep. Indians need to be jolted out of
their slumber.
This
presentation tries to point out that we Indians have been suffering from
severe apathy to quality. It tries to look at the typical Indian mindset
and find the root cause of why we have developed this mindset. It takes a
look at the history of Indian economy, industry and the political
situation, analyses where we went wrong and what needs to be done now to
correct the situation. Indians need to wake up to the real quality issues
if we were to survive. Not only the Indian producers need to produce
quality, Indian consumers need to get into the habit of demanding quality.
The
presentation analyses the Indian psyche and believes that this awareness
will shake him out of his slumber.

Software Consultancy business unit. I have over
20 years of experience in Information Technology (IT) developing and
implementing computerised business solutions, most of which as head of IT
departments.

Strategy for successful Implementations, People aspects of IT, IT related
Change Management, What Top Management needs to know of IT, etc. With a right mix of People, Process and Technology (PPT) expertise, I specialise in Business Process Automation focused on business objectives and people. Having managed IT on behalf of both IT user companies and SEI CMM Level 5 software manufacturing companies, I have gained expertise right from high level IT Strategies, Change Management, Strategies for IT implementations, upto down to earth system architecture and software delivery. With my close study of the businesses and people, I have developed the insight to develop business solutions that work for businesses and people.
The
presentations are based on my over twenty years of experience working in
computer profession, my close association with people using computers and
a strong human orientation to computerisation problem. I am an engineering graduate from I.I.T., the most reputed Technology institute in the country and have an MBA (with specialisation in Systems) from I.I.M., the most reputed management institute of the country. I have passed a course "Energo Cybernetic Strategy - Advanced Management Diploma" with flying colours (from Mewes Systems, Germany). This was a course for which the prerequisite was "an open mind" and which was aimed at developing the intuitive skills.
I
have other articles to my credit on IT management. I have also written an
article on "God and Religion - A Scientific and Objective Look" which
is an eye opener too. This article again is a result of a 'helicopter
view', a different kind of thinking to see what is not so obvious.
